ESPN fired analyst Curt Schilling over recent comments he made on social media criticizing transgender people.
Schilling, a former Boston Red Sox pitcher, was fired on Wednesday after sharing a Facebook post that seemed to follow up on the news of the controversial North Carolina “bathroom bill.” He had been working for the network since 2010.
“ESPN is an inclusive company,” ESPN said in a statement. “Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated.”
The post featured an overweight man, dressed in women’s clothing, and reads “LET HIM IN! to the restroom with your daughter or else you’re a narrow-minded judgmental, unloving racist bigot who needs to die.
Schilling, who had been working at ESPN since 2010, added: “A man is a man no matter what they call themselves. I don’t care what they are, who they sleep with, men’s room was designed for the penis, women’s not so much. Now you need laws telling us differently? Pathetic.”
This was the latest in a series of incidents involving Schilling posting potentially inflammatory things to social media. ESPN suspended him for a month after he tweeted a post in August that compared radical Muslims to Nazis.
Schilling’s publicist did not respond to a request for comment.
