Since 2014, 28 million Takata inflaters in 24 million cars [have already been recalled](http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/14/business/as-takata-costs-soar-in-airbag-recall-files-show-early-worries-on-financial-toll.html "undefined") for their tendency to explode and send metal or glass shrapnel shooting at the car passengers.
