A 14-month-old girl died after she stopped breathing during a routine cavity filling at Austin Children’s Dentistry on Tuesday.
Daisy Lynn Torres was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead around noon. The medical examiner’s office said an investigation into her death is underway, and The Texas State Board of Dental Examiners is also investigating, the Austin American-Statesman reports.
“Daisy was a happy, healthy, baby,” Jessica Castaneda, Daisy’s aunt, told the Austin American-Statesman. “She was playing with the family on Easter. She went to the dentist and didn’t come home.”
“This is a tragedy, and we’re just waiting to learn more information from the medical examiner’s office,” said a spokesperson for the dentist’s office, who added that all procedures were followed during Torres’ appointment.
Someone close to the family started an online funding campaign for Torres’ funeral.
