Tulsi Gabbard [endorsed Bernie Sanders for president](http://www.nbcnews.com/meet-the-press/congresswoman-endorses-bernie-sanders-steps-down-dnc-n527481) on Sunday and resigned from her post as vice chair of the Democratic National Committee. The [lawmaker](http://gabbard.house.gov/), who served in Iraq as an Army National Guard major, made the announcement on NBC’s _Meet the Press._ “I think it’s most important for us, as we look at our choices as to who our next commander in chief will be, is to recognize the necessity to have a commander in chief who has foresight, who exercises good judgment,” Gabbard said. “As a veteran, as a soldier, I’ve seen firsthand the true cost of war,” she added. Gabbard’s endorsement comes one day after [Hillary Clinton’s decisive win](http://time.com/4239405/south-carolina-primary-results-hillary-clinton-bernie-sanders/?19&xid=homepage) against Sanders in South Carolina and before nearly a dozen states vote Tuesday. ## Transcript Hillary Clinton has taken South Carolina just as husband Bill did in his first conquest for commander in chief, the former first lady has now also won the Palmetto state primary. The victory was the culmination of a week's worth of hard work, as Clinton made roughly 14 campaign stops with husband Bill and daughter Chelsea also spending time in the state. Voters appreciated the extra effort And thank the 67th Secretary of State at the polls.
