Abrams wants the Star Wars universe to represent the society we live in today. Abrams said he’s open to the idea of a gay Star Wars character in the next films. “When I talk about inclusivity its not excluding gay characters, it’s about inclusivity so of course,” he told reporters at the US-Ireland Alliance Oscar Wilde Awards on Thursday. “To me the fun of Star Wars is exploring the possibilities, so it seems insanely narrow minded to say that there wouldn’t be a homosexual character in that world.” The director, 49, said he’s always been focused on inclusivity in the franchise and making the films “look the way the world looks” – even when it came to casting. They're not saying for what but I assumed it was for the upcoming Star Wars movie. And so I'm very excited and I went in, I met with him and he basically told me the whole story, he laid it out not in itself was very surreal. I was in a cafe in Paris with JJ and he's Pitching me the new Star Wars film and the character that I would be playing. [ MUSIC ] And yeah, and it was great. And actually what was the most surprising thing about it is that we kinda collaborated on the character, and what it could be, and And it evolved from the initial idea to what ended up being in the film.
