The eagles have landed!
Birders can now go online and watch a pair of bald eagles — dubbed “Mr. President” and “The First Lady” — nest at the United States National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. via two 24/7 solar-powered, live-streaming cameras set up by the American Eagle Foundation.
“The First Lady” laid an egg on February 10 and a second on Valentine’s Day, eggs that are expected to hatch mid-March. The couple set up camp atop a Tulip Poplar tree surrounded by the arboretum’s azaleas and overlooking the Anacostia River in October 2014 — the first time a bald eagle pair has nested in that location since 1947, according to a news release. They raised a “healthy eaglet” in the spring and summer of 2015.
The live-streams can be watched at eagles.org or dceaglecam.org.
