The 2016 Oscar nominations are in, and perhaps even more so than in recent years, the list presents very little in the way of diversity.
While Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu swept the nominations with The Revenant, his film earned only nominations for white actors (Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy). Not a single non-white actor is nominated in any of the four acting categories.
The Twitter hashtag #OscarsSoWhite was revived accordingly on Thursday, with people complaining about the lack of diversity and naming non-white actors who could have picked up nods for their work this year.
Still, some were hopeful that at least Chris Rock would skewer the Academy’s disinterest in diverse representation when he hosts the award show on Feb. 28.
