Jodie Foster directs the financial thriller, which stars Clooney as Wall Street guru and investment talk show host Lee Gates, who is taken hostage on-air when a rogue gunman (Jack O’Connell) crashes the show with a bone to pick with Gates. Julia Roberts co-stars as Gates’ producer, Patty. Speaking to [Yahoo! Movies](https://www.yahoo.com/movies/director-jodie-foster-breaks-down-exclusive-002343375.html "undefined"), where the trailer debuted, Foster revealed that Clooney and Roberts filmed their roles on completely different shooting schedules. A glance at the trailer suggests it wasn’t a difficult feat, considering Roberts’ producer appears to be safely incubated in the control room while the hostage crisis pans out on air. _Money Monster_ also stars _Outlander_’s Caitriona Balfe, Dominic West, and Giancarlo Esposito.
