The American Hairless Terrier and the Sloughi joined the litter, after being fully recognized by the AKC, and will be able to compete in most AKC shows and competitions, including next year’s Westminster Kennel Club dog show. The registry of purebred dog pedigrees in the U.S. now has 189 dog breeds including the additions. “We’re excited to welcome these two unique breeds into the AKC family,” AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo said in a statement. “Both breeds make wonderful companions for the right family.” The American Hairless Terrier is small to medium sized and is very active, officials said. The Sloughi is also athletic and needs a lot of exercise. It’s a medium-sized natural hunter and runner. The canine is also somewhat high-maintenance when it comes to grooming.
