The _I Smile Back_ star sparked outrage on social media Friday when she wrote, “MERRY CHRISTMAS! Jesus was gender fluid!” on both her Twitter and Facebook accounts. The term “gender fluid” refers to a person whose gender may change and who does not commit to being either male or female. Silverman, 45, followed up the joke with a vulgar post about Santa. We sell [00:04] collegiate sweaters, we sell patriotic gear, and our [00:06] specialty is Christmas products. I'm Evan. I'm Nick. [00:09] And we are the co- founders of Tipsy Elves. [00:11] [ LAUGHTER ] We started Tipsy Elves really [00:15] out of seeing a necessity for an online sweater [00:18] supplier. We've both gone to a lot of ugly Christmas [00:21] sweater parties, and we couldn't find them anywhere [00:23] other than thrift stores. And that kinda was the [00:25] lightbulb moment where we realized that if we could [00:28] manufacture them ourselves and sell them online, [00:31] there would be a significant need for what we were [00:33] doing. Nice Jesus. Thanks. My [00:37] previous career was an endodontist, which is a [00:40] specialty within dentistry. And I was working as an [00:42] attorney at a firm here in San Diego. After about a year [00:45] the goal would be that Evan would quit first [ MUSIC ] [00:48] When it was reasonable. And mine was sort of a pie in [00:51] the sky. If it keeps growing in two or three years [00:53] maybe I'll be able to do the same. And we recently got [00:56] to the point where the business could support both of [00:59] us. Evan cashed out all of his savings, all the savings [01:01] that I had. It was a little over $ 100, 000 and we used [01:04] all of it to make a website. Manufacture these [01:06] sweaters, and neither of us are designers by trade, so [01:10] it was a little bit of trial and error. I designed this all by [01:13] myself. You see our design's gotten a little more [01:15] complex. Since we started our business, we've done [01:19] $ 10 million in sales. We're hoping to double our last [01:22] year's sales this year. We've worked with a lot of [01:26] different charities, but the one that we own ourselves is [01:28] called the Sweaters for Sweater program, and we use a [01:31] portion of our sales to manufacture fleece hoodies that [01:34] we donate to kids all over the country. It's just a way to [01:38] give back, and since we started as a Christmas [01:39] company, and it's kind of a season of giving, it made [01:41] sense to have a [ INAUDIBLE ]. Out there too. Okay so [01:43] can you turn a little bit. Maybe open up a pocket. I [01:47] think the difference for even and I going to where now [01:49] compared to our old jobs is completely night and day. [01:52] I never really understood that the saying if you love [01:56] what you do you never work a day in your life. And [01:58] what we do now really doesn't feel like work. It's [02:00] something that. We're pretty obsessed with and we [02:03] really love coming in everyday. The advice I'd have to [02:06] an inspiring entrepreneur is to really test their idea [02:09] before jumping into it. What I wouldn't do is go and [02:11] ask all of your friends and family their thoughts. [02:14] Because I feel like you're not gonna get very good [02:16] feedback. Everyone's gonna be supportive because it's [02:19] your idea. And I think you need to test it with people [02:22] that you don't know or people that aren't as good of [02:23] friends to get honest feedback on the idea. I'm most [02:26] excited, or proud, of having all the people and having [02:29] this new office and seeing how we're growing and [02:31] where we're headed. The thing that makes me [02:33] proudest is saying what we do and having someone [02:36] say, oh I've heard of you guys. And that to me is It's a [02:40] sign that we're becoming the brand that I want us to [02:43] be.
