During a campaign stop on Tuesday, Clinton is expected to announce the plan which would mark a substantial increase in annual federal funding for the disease. Reuters reports Alzheimer’s research received $588 million in funding last year. The 2016 budget allocated $350 million more in funding toward the disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association, a 60% increase in funding from 2015. > [](https://twitter.com/HillaryClinton/status/679300468154220545) According to the [Alzheimer’s Association](http://www.alz.org/facts/overview.asp) an estimated 5.3 million Americans have Alzheimer’s in 2015, 5.1 million of whom are over the age of 65\. Over two-thirds of those afflicted with the disease are women and African Americans and Hispanics are more likely than whites to have Alzheimer’s.
