Timing is everything for entertainers, and when Jon Stewart steps on screen on The Daily Show Monday night, it will be to a very eager audience.
The former host of the Comedy Central show will be reappearing for the first time since he handed over the reigns to Trevor Noah. Stewart will be there to talk about the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, which hopes Congress will vote to extend; the program’s health component to help 9/11 first responders expired on Oct. 1, and the victims’ compensation component is set to expire next year.
But given all that’s been in the news lately, including Donald Trump’s outrage-inducing proposal on Monday to bar all Muslims from entering the U.S. — exactly the kind of fodder Stewart used to sink his teeth into — it’s likely Noah will encourage him to share his thoughts on topics other than the 9/11 bill.
