Adele’s Idol Damon Albarn Denies Feud With Singer

Damon Albarn wants to put a rest to any purported beef between him and Adele. The Blur singer and Gorillaz co-creator responded to comments Adele made in an interview with Rolling Stone about their work together on her new album, 25.

“It’s not even true,” he tells TimeOut London. “It’s amazing how people will run with stuff that has no credence whatsoever and turn it into something and then watch the reaction.”

The first signs of friction bubbled up in September, when Albarn said he worked on 25, but was unsure if his material would make the final album. (It didn’t.) “The thing is, she’s very insecure. And she doesn’t need to be, she’s still so young,” he said.

Adele chalked up the interaction to being a disappointing meeting. “It ended up being one of those ‘don’t meet your idol’ moments,” she told the magazine. “And the saddest thing was that I was such a big Blur fan growing up. But it was sad, and I regret hanging out with him. None of it was right. None of it suited my record.”

In the wake of Adele’s comments, Albarn was stunned at the social media reaction. “I was number five on Twitter,” he tells TimeOut. “I mean, how pathetic is that?”
