Charles Koch is unlikely to back a candidate in the Repulbican presidential primary, the billionaire political backer said Wednesday.
“I have no plans to support anybody in the primary now,” Koch told USA Today.
The business mogul said that he wants more from the Republican candidates than promises for action—he wants results.
“If they start saying things we think are beneficial overall and will change the trajectory of the country, then that would be good,” said Koch. “But we have to believe also they’ll follow through on it, and by and large, candidates don’t do that.”
Koch said that he has not been in contact with Republican presidential hopefuls since an August donors’ seminar attended by former Florida governor Jeb Bush, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, Texas Senator Ted Cruz and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. Walker has since dropped out of the race.
“My brother [David] talks to them a lot more,” said Koch. “Being in New York, it’s easier for everybody to come and see him. He’s more interested in the political side.”
