Earlier this month, Drake released the music video accompanying his summer single “Hotline Bling.” It is a piece of videography tailor-made for its meme-hungry audience — a cheerfully self-aware Drake does little more than dance with exacerbated motions and demonstrative facial expressions, the hallmarks of any viral GIF — and the Internet has responded accordingly, tripping over itself to exploit every ironic possibility. Consider this Twitter account.
The latest addition to the meme catalog features not Drake, but Greg Gregson, alias Mr. G, the campy, vain drama teacher from the Australian comedy series Summer Heights High. As it turns out, Mr. G’s manner of teaching mirrors Drake’s manner of dancing — or vice versa, maybe — as evidenced when the former is set to “Hotline Bling.”
Chris Lilley, who played Mr. G (among other characters in the show, which he created), posted the video to Facebook on Sunday.
