This Airport Evacuation Is a Lesson in What Not to Label Your Party Favors

1 minute read

A checked bag containing party favors for a wedding that looked like fake explosives prompted a 20-minute evacuation at the Denver International Airport last month.

In a post on Instagram, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) wrote that bomb specialists discovered that the items in question were just “novelty bottles of bath salts topped with wax-covered lids and fuses.” The items were labeled “TNT” because the names of the bride and groom started with the letter “T.”

The agency advised airline passengers to “be mindful of” what their belongings might “appear as on an X-ray monitor.”
