Watch Salman Rushdie Recite Drake Lyrics

1 minute read

World-renowned literary icon Salman Rushdie stopped by CBC’s studios recently to promote his new novel, Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights. He also used the opportunity to recite and study some great Canadian literature. And by great Canadian literature, we mean lyrics written by Drake.

CBC asked the Booker Prize-winning author to recite verses from five Drake tracks: “6 PM in New York,” “Forever,” “Know Yourself,” “What’s My Name” and “6 God.” After each recitation, he offered evaluations and commentary. For example: “I like the half-rhyme. I like ‘greatest’ and ‘played with.’ That’s good.” He also praises Drake for a subtle reference to a Marilyn Monroe quote.

If nothing else, we recommend watching the clip just for the opportunity to hear Salman Rushdie say words like “poppin'” and “woes.”
