Kate Winslet Has a Great Reason for Keeping Her Oscar in a Weird Place

2 minute read

Natalie Portman may have no clue where her Oscar is, but Kate Winslet, who won in 2009 for her role in The Reader, knows precisely where to find hers.

In a recent interview with WSJ. Magazine, promoting her role in the upcoming film Steve Jobs, the actress revealed that she keeps her beloved Oscar in her bathroom. Why? Because she wants to give her guests an opportunity to practice Oscar speeches in front of the mirror.

“The whole point is for everybody to pick it up and go, ‘I’d like to thank my son and my dad’—and you can always tell when someone has, because they’re in there a little bit longer after they flushed,” Winslet said. “They’ll come out looking slightly pink-cheeked. It’s hysterical.”

In the interview, Winslet also said she doesn’t consider herself a “movie star” and that the phrase makes her uncomfortable. “I’ve always been so uncomfortable with that. I just don’t feel like one, and I don’t live like one either— not the way I imagine a proper movie star living.”

Winslet did not reveal where she plans to keep her next Oscar if she wins for Steve Jobs.
