With Hillary Clinton the front-runner for the Democratic nomination and Carly Fiorina surging in the Republican field, the U.S. is as close as it’s ever been to having its first female President.
But, according to a video uncovered by Fortune, it seems Fiorina has been thinking about it for a while.
Thirteen years ago, when Fiorina was CEO of Hewlett-Packard, she spoke at Fortune‘s Most Power Women Summit and talked about “the first time America was presented with the idea of a woman president.”
She cited the 1964 movie Kisses For My President, in which Polly Bergen played the country’s first female Commander in Chief; she resigns her post as President at the end of the film when she becomes pregnant and decides she can’t run the country and care for her family.
“If you could harness the energy from all the screams that this movie has evoked or should have evoked from women the past 40 years, you’d probably have enough energy to power California the next 40 years,” Fiorina said of the film.
