Apple Might Finally Let You Delete Those Apps You Never Use

2 minute read

Great news: someday you might finally get to delete stock iPhone apps like Tips and Stocks — someday.

Though there’s no timeline on the horizon, Apple CEO Tim Cook told BuzzFeed in a recent interview that at some point in the future, the company will let iPhone owners delete some of these apps.

“It’s not that we want to suck up your real estate; we’re not motivated to do that. We want you to be happy. So I recognize that some people want to do this, and it’s something we’re looking at,” he said.

He also answered a key question: why Apple hasn’t let people delete them from the beginning.

It turns out, some of these apps are connected to other apps or features of the phone, so removing them would create some problems with these other elements’ functioning, Cook explained. The interview didn’t include details about which of the are too hard-wired into the phone, so it’s hard to tell what Apple will eventually let us delete. And it’s also not clear when that blessed day will come.

Nevertheless, it’s good to hear that Tim Cook’s Apple is one that’s open to move beyond whatever Steve Jobs built into the iPhone if it means happier customers.
