The plant releases a pungent smell when it blooms, hence the name. After about two days, the stench will subside. But that won’t stop plant fans from lining up at the garden’s entrance to get a sniff. If you want to see the plant’s beauty without getting a whiff of the stench, you can watch the live feed of the plant’s blooming inside a greenhouse above. ## Transcript [ MUSIC ] plants evolve to live in an environment where it rained and it would dry out, and rain, it would dry out. And we don't water them that way. We water them all the time. And the funny thing is, is that if you actually water plants correctly, not only do you use a ton less water, but you get healthier and better looking plants. My name is John Fordemwalt, I'm the President and C. CEO of Baseline Systems. Baseline is a manufacturer of high- tech irrigation equipment. The technology was originally invented with the idea of going into, like, industrial applications and manufacturing facilities. And it was only because we didn't have any place to test it that we ended up testing it in some of our yards and discovered this did a way better job at managing sprinkling and irrigation than anything else we could. It will automatically adjust for real world conditions. The climate, wind, solar, exposure, all of these things could be automated by actually measuring what was in the soil and so this became like thermostat for your landscape. Water efficiency is a huge deal in North America and worldwide American Waterworks Association estimates that 58 % of all of our domestic water goes on the landscape. The EPA estimates of that 58 %, 50 % of that is wasted, it's pushed down below the root zone of the plants or it runs off or it evapor [ MUSIC ] Operates. We were originally connected with the World Trade Center memorial project, by Peter Walkers and Associates. They're in charge of the landscape design for the project. It's a very challenging environment to water. You have, you have trees that are in containers. You have some strips of grass. You have open beds, you have covered beds. And it's the, it's the combination of all those things that makes it such a challenge. Peter Walker and Associates came to us and said, Can your moisture sensors solve these problems? And we said, Absolutely yes. We watered the trees in New Jersey, for the whole time that they were growing out, in preparation for the final construction on the memorial. And the sensors went with the trees to the memorial [ MUSIC ] Right down this way there's a tree with a little fence around it. That's called the survivor tree, that tree was here before, it was found in the rubble, it was taken up to the Bronx, nursed back to health and brought back here a little over three and a half years ago. The survivor tree, obviously, was a big deal for the entire project. We don't actually have a sensor right in the bed of the survivor tree, but all the trees around it are all controlled by sensors and we use that same data to manage the water of the tree. No one will ever allow any of those trees to die. We're going to make sure that every single one survives. That's the part of the message of the memorial. No one's gonna be forgotten.
