Tony Wilson, the influential founder of Factory Records, died in 2007. Now some of the label’s key figures, including New Order’s Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris, and cover designer Peter Saville have teamed up for a song, “St. Anthony: An Ode To Anthony H. Wilson” that honors the late icon.
Steve Coogan, who played Wilson in 24 Hour Party People, and Iggy Pop, who made his TV debut on Wilson’s TV show, So It Goes, also appear. The accompanying music, composed by Joe Duddell, was based on a New Order song, “Your Silent Face,” and poet Mike Garry contributed the lyrics.
The song will be made available digitally and on vinyl/CD on Aug. 14 via Skinny Dog, and all proceeds will go towards the Christie Charitable Fund.
