Unarmed Texas Football Player Killed by Police

1 minute read

A Texas police officer shot and killed a black college football player in suburban Dallas Friday, according to authorities. Police were responding to a burglary call at a car dealership in Arlington and found that the 19-year-old player, Christian Taylor, had crashed a car through the dealership’s front window, the Associated Press reports. A struggle ensued in which Taylor, who was unarmed, was shot by police officer Brad Miller.

Miller, who has no record of disciplinary action and no commendations, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. Arlington police officers don’t wear body cameras, but officials are examining surveillance footage from the scene.

Taylor was a defensive back at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. “Heart is hurting,” Angelo State football coach Will Wagner wrote on Twitter following the shooting.
