Comcast has announced that it will launch a streaming television service for subscribers of its cable service, Xfinity, in the coming months.

It’s called Stream, aptly enough, and for $15 a month it will provide access on tablets, laptops and smartphones to live television from “about a dozen networks” and “thousands of on-demand movies and shows,” Matt Strauss, an executive vice president at Comcast, [stated in a press release](http://corporate.comcast.com/comcast-voices/a-new-streaming-tv-service-from-comcast).

The company is launching a beta version of the service in Boston toward the end of the summer, followed by a soft rollout in Chicago and Seattle. They say it’ll be available everywhere by early next year. Xfinity subscribers will simply have to download an app to have access to Stream.

Cutting the cord, it's tough. Ain't no trip to Cleveland, that's for sure. Our friends at findthebest. com, have come up with a whole mess of ways for you to ditch your cable company, though. Here's a handful based on the type of content you like. For the purposes of this exercise, we're gonna assume you pay 60 bucks a month for cable, which equals $ 720 per year. Now, if you don't care what you watch as long as the TV stays on, the bills go away, consider The Cheapskate collection of free and legal services. Basic Hulu is really the headliner here that'll give you a hodgepodge of free and popular shows, and you can round out your content with a bunch of other free services. And now to the trump card in any cable company's argument, sports. What are you gonna do about sports? Subscribing all these popular services will cost you about $ 400 a year but you won't get live NFL games and there's blackout restrictions depending on the sport. So make sure to check with each provider to see what you're getting and what you're not getting.

If you want the best movies as soon as you can get 'em and you're not averse to paying per- rental, check out the modern movie file package. Rentals will cost about 3 or 5 bucks a piece, if you watch a movie a month that's around 50 bucks a year. If you watch three a month that's around 150 bucks a year. If you watch more than that, [ LAUGH ] you have more faith in the entertainment industry, than I do. And finally a solute to nostalgia with the time traveler packages. The early days of video rentals box, CTVs and DVD players. We won't make you get in the car or use any kiosks but Redbox and Blockbuster are still alive and kicking.
