Morning Must Reads: July 7

3 minute read

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will sit for her first national news interview of the 2016 presidential cycle today in Iowa, facing questions from CNN’s Brianna Keilar. The newfound openness follows an embarrassing incident in which Clinton’s campaign trapped reporters with a rope at a New Hampshire parade on Saturday and as she prepares to begin laying out her policy proposals for the first time. Another Iran deadline, another likely extension. Negotiators in Vienna are down to the wire on the talks, but the U.S. government indicated Monday that an extension of the existing negotiating agreement is on the table. As fundraising numbers trickle in, a pattern is emerging: candidates like Carly Fiorina, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz are being dramatically out-raised by their super PACs, which can accept unlimited contributions. While the group’s can’t coordinate, that legal line is often fuzzy and the groups are adopting novel strategies to communicate with their official masters. And Cruz is defending Donald Trump, after seeing the showman’s rise in national and state polling eating into his support.
