AMC Orders First Scripted Comedies

1 minute read

With Breaking Bad off the air and Mad Men coming to an end next year, AMC is investing in some new projects. The cable network ordered its first comedy pilots Wednesday, one of which is based on Andrea Abbate’s play Random Acts. Abbate (from the British version of The Office) will write and produce the single-camera comedy, the Hollywood Reporter reports.

In the comedy, two single 30-something girls work as contract killers in Echo Park and must deal with drug lords and crooked cops on the daily, all while resolving issues in their personal relationships.

AMC ordered several other comedy projects, including No Money Down from The Daily Show‘s Wyatt Cenac and a late night project with Kevin Smith. On the drama side, the cable network ordered We Hate Paul Revere and Area 51 from X Files writer Chris Carter. They also drew up a deal with Dave Erickson (Sons of Anarchy) to co-write and produce a Walking Dead companion show.
