Watch Bill Hader and Fred Armisen Spoof Self-Serious Docs in Teaser for Documentary Now!

1 minute read

Some of the greatest gifts Saturday Night Live has to offer are the collaborations that come from its alumni, even years after they’ve left the show. One such collaboration, Documentary Now!, will head to IFC this summer, reuniting Fred Armisen and Bill Hader for a six-episode extended parody of the documentary genre.

Created, written and executive produced by Hader, Armisen and fellow SNL alum Seth Meyers (with Lorne Michaels also executive producing), the show is inspired by the SNL sketch “Ian Rubbish and the Bizarros: History of Punk,” a mini-mockumentary about a British punk band during the Margaret Thatcher era.

The teaser finds Armisen and Hader posing for sepia-toned vintage photographs, dog-sledding and taking advantage of ample opportunities to dress in drag. The shows creators told Entertainment Weekly that viewers can expect to see a lampooning of common documentary narrative techniques, such as montages, never-before-seen footage and crime reenactments.

Documentary Now!, whose guest stars include Jack Black and John Slattery, premieres on IFC on Aug. 20 at 10 p.m.
