Kelly Clarkson’s Soulful Rihanna Cover Shows Why She Should Sing More R&B

We said it when she covered Tracy Chapman, and we’ll say it again now: Kelly Clarkson really needs to sing more R&B and blues, because girl’s got soul.

Listen above to her slower, jazzier version of Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money” performed for BBC Radio 1. She’s accompanied by two back-up singers, a keyboardist and a guitarist — bu, like always, she’s clearly the star of the show here.

You’ll notice that she cleans up the lyrics a bit, changing “bitch” to “y’all” and changing “turn up to Rihanna while the whole club f–kin’ wasted” to the more, uh, family-friendly “turn up to KC playing the whole club’s getting crazy.”
