A man tried to propose to his girlfriend at a McDonald’s drive-thru by handing her a paper box that had the ring in a chicken sandwich – and she did not say yes.

“This is not what you do,” she says in the clip, half-laughing and totally speechless. As he puts the ring on her finger, she starts sobbing, “You gave me this?!” while pointing at the chicken sandwich. He said, no, it was not a joke. In fact, her dad and the whole drive-thru staff was in on it. But it was too late. Her answer was final: “I can’t marry you.”

The way he proposed was not supposed to seem totally random. In the YouTube description of the video, he said the couple met two years ago in Los Angeles and ended their first date at that same McDonald’s drive-thru. “She joked for months about how 10 years down the road I would probably propose to her in a chicken nugget box so I thought she would love when I surprised her this way,” he wrote. “She didn’t love it like the way I thought she would. We agreed to wait longer until it’s time to get engaged.”

By having the courage to upload this series of events, YouTube user “Joseph Ann” must be hoping to make it all up to her by going viral.
