Elisabeth Bing, 100, the “mother of Lamaze,” who championed the more natural childbirth technique. An estimated quarter of expectant mothers in the U.S. attend Lamaze classes.

RECALLED

By Japan-based auto-parts maker Takata, more air bags, bringing the total to 34 million. A defect sometimes causes the bags to explode, which has led to six deaths and more than 100 injuries.

Aruna Shanbaug, 66, a nurse in India who had been in a coma for 42 years after being raped and physically assaulted by an orderly. She died of pneumonia but had become the face of arguments over euthanasia in the country.
