As part of a tearful homage to David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel urged his viewers to watch Letterman's last show instead of tuning in to ABC.
"Tomorrow night is Letterman's farewell show and I would like it if you would watch that instead of our show," he said. "We will have a show on tomorrow night, it's going to be a rerun. Please do not watch it, especially if you're a young person who doesn't understand what all the fuss is about. Dave is the best and you should see him."
Kimmel is not shy about his admiration for Letterman. He wrote in a piece for TIME: "For me, Late Night With David Letterman wasn’t just a show. It was a problem."
Kimmel also turned the segment over to his bandleader Cleto, who talked about Letterman's bandleader Paul Shaffer in what Kimmel called a "bona fide act of love."
