The latest trailer for Chris Columbus’ Pixels offers a look at humanity’s last line of defense against alien invaders who have a thing for Pac-Man and Donkey Kong.
Among them are Pac-Man world champion Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Centipede savant Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Donkey Kong king Eddie Plant (Peter Dinklage). The three of them are called upon by President William Cooper (Kevin James) and Vanessa van Patten (Michelle Monaghan) to fight against an alien threat disguised as video game characters. All those wasted hours in the arcade are finally paying off.
The trailer includes the familiar joke about Pac-Man’s creator coming to save his “son,” but there’s also plenty of new footage of the Centipede threat, as well as a cameo from a rogue, dancing Smurf.
Pixels is set to release in theaters—and capitalize on your childhood nostalgia for memorizing arcade game patterns—on July 24.
