### FAQ

#### Is a PMP certification worth it?

A Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is widely considered a valuable certification for project managers seeking to advance their careers. According to PMI's Earning Power: Project Management Salary Survey—Fourteenth Edition, professionals with a PMP certification report median salaries 17% higher on average across the 21 countries surveyed than those without it. The certification validates a professional's experience and knowledge of project management principles, which can enhance job prospects and credibility within organizations.

#### What are the best certifications for project managers?

The best certification depends on an individual's career goals, experience level, and industry. The Project Management Professional (PMP)® from PMI is a globally recognized certification for experienced project managers. For those newer to the field, PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® is a common starting point. Other notable certifications include those focused on agile methodologies, such as the PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)®, and program management certifications like the Program Management Professional (PgMP)®. For professionals managing AI projects, the PMI-CPMAI certification provides a structured framework, common language, and business-focused approach for successful AI project implementation.

#### How does PMI support career growth for professionals?

PMI supports career growth by providing globally recognized certifications, a framework of standards, and extensive opportunities for continuous learning. Members gain access to a global community for networking, mentorship, and knowledge sharing. The organization also produces research and thought leadership on emerging trends, helping professionals stay current with skills in areas like AI, agile practices, and strategic business management. These resources are designed to help professionals at all levels enhance their skills and advance their careers.

#### What is the PMBOK® Guide?

The PMBOK® Guide, or A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, is PMI’s foundational guide to generally accepted project management knowledge and practice. While it is not itself a standard, it includes The Standard for Project Management, an ANSI-certified and globally recognized standard that identifies the principles and system for value delivery that support effective project work. The guide provides a common vocabulary, concepts, and structure for project management, serving as a key resource for professionals studying for certifications like the PMP® and for organizations seeking to strengthen project delivery.

#### How is AI changing project management?

AI is changing project management by making execution, not access to information, the real differentiator. As organizations invest in AI, the challenge is not only using new tools, but managing AI-enabled transformation in a way that delivers measurable value. Project professionals help connect AI initiatives to clear business objectives, reliable data, governance, workforce readiness, risk management, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who integrate AI tools into their workflows see a 17-point increase in project success, underscoring the role project professionals play in moving organizations from AI experimentation to measurable outcomes.

#### What are the most important skills for a project manager?

Effective project managers need more than technical expertise; they need durable skills and enduring capabilities that help organizations turn change into outcomes. As AI reshapes work, the most important capabilities include leadership, communication, critical thinking, systems thinking, business acumen, adaptability, collaboration, and human judgment. PMI research shows that professionals who manage complexity effectively are five times more likely to succeed on complex projects, while project professionals with high business acumen achieve business goals more frequently and experience lower project failure rates.

#### How can I get involved with the PMI community?

Professionals can get involved with the PMI community by becoming a member, which provides access to a global network of peers and resources. Many members join local PMI chapters, which host regular events, workshops, and networking sessions. Online, PMI's projectmanagement.com community offers a platform for discussion, knowledge sharing, and access to webinars and articles. Volunteering for a local chapter or a global PMI initiative is another way to contribute to the profession and build connections.

#### What is the difference between PMP and CAPM?

The PMP (Project Management Professional)® and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)® are both certifications offered by PMI, but they target professionals at different career stages. The CAPM is an entry-level certification designed for individuals with little or no project experience, validating their understanding of fundamental project management knowledge and terminology. The PMP is for experienced project managers and requires a combination of formal education and years of documented project leadership experience, making it a more advanced and globally recognized certification.

#### How does PMI support social impact?
PMI supports social impact by helping individuals, nonprofits, NGOs, and communities use project management to turn purpose into measurable outcomes. Through the PMI Educational Foundation, PMI expands access to project management education for youth worldwide, including underserved and underrepresented populations. Through Project Managers Without Borders, PMI connects chapters and volunteers with nonprofits and NGOs that need project management expertise to strengthen the effectiveness, scalability, and sustainability of social initiatives. Last year, the people of Ukraine realized that they had, in effect, no army to defend them. Their military had been too depleted by corruption and mismanagement to mount a defense when Russia sent troops to seize the region of Crimea in February 2014\. Through the following spring, armed forces mostly stood by as Russia went on to fuel a separatist rebellion in Ukraine’s eastern regions, seizing effective control of more territory and large portions of the border with Ukraine. The so-called “volunteer battalions”—poorly trained but highly motivated militias—arose to fill the holes in Ukraine’s defenses.

Over the past year, dozens of these paramilitary groups have appeared on Ukraine’s battlefields, often bearing the brunt of the fighting against Russian-backed separatist forces. They consist of anywhere from a few dozen to a few thousand troops, and their more successful commanders often enjoy the status of national celebrities. But their place in the military hierarchy of Ukraine tends to be murky. Though they get much of their heavy weaponry from government stockpiles, they mostly operate in a legal grey zone, closer to guerrillas than national guards.

Earlier this year, TIME embedded with one of the more controversial of these groups—the Dudaev Battalion—which has been carrying out reconnaissance and sabotage behind enemy lines since the war began. About half of its troops are from foreign countries, meaning that, legally, they do not have the right to serve in Ukraine’s armed forces. But their commander Adam Osmaev, who is wanted in Russia on terrorism charges, now wants to merge his force with Ukraine’s defense ministry or national police—a move that would give him access to more weapons, he says, as well as a chance to get some Western military aid.

## Transcript

Spend some time near the front line of the war in Eastern Ukraine and you're likely to hear the same complaint from a lot of the fighter's at least on the Ukrainian side. They all want more powerful weapons, lot's of them, and they're counting on the United States to provide them. We need American's [ FOREIGN ] This line is especially common among Ukraine's paramilitaries. Who have carried the brunt of the fighting against pro- Russian separatists over the past year or so. Among the more controversial units on the Ukrainian side is the so called Budiav battalion, [ LAUGH ] A motley bunch of fighters who have come Come from all over the world to participate in this conflict.

[ LAUGH ] About a quarter of them hail from Chechnya, the predominantly Muslim region of Russia that fought two wars for independence against Moscow in the 1990s. Nineties. A lot of them see the current war in Ukraine as a revival of that failed insurgency. By protecting Ukraine maybe one day freedom will come to my own home in Chechnya. That intention might make Russians nervous especially coming from someone like Osmaer. Since 2007 Moscow has arrest him on charges of terrorism which he has always denied. In 2012 while he was living in Ukraine under a false identity, Asmiah was arrested and charged with plotting to assassinate none other than Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, using a home made bomb.

[ FOREIGN ] In news footage aired on Russian state television, Osmaev appeared to confess to the plot To kill Putin in 2012. [ FOREIGN ] Early last year when the revolution broken out in Ukraine, Osmayev was still on trial for those charges awaiting possible extradition to Russia, but the uprising seems to have saved him. Under Ukraine's new leadership, Mia was acquitted of all terrorism chargers and released from custody last fall I was freed in November and I moved to eastern Ukraine as soon as I could to join The fight for Ukrainian freedom and sovereignty, to protect Ukraine. He now spends much of his time in the frontline town of Lisichansk, where he and his men patrolled streets using weapons and armored vehicles that they get from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

And driving around, he often says the devastation in Eastern Ukraine Reminds him of the war he saw in Chechnya 15 years ago. In Grozny ( Chechnya ) it was all like this. Here it's just a couple houses. In Chechnya we didn't let the Russian army do anything. All the time it was explosions, roadside bombs, sabotage. In the coming months, It seems like [ UNKNOWN ] may get his wish for access to American weapons. The House Armed Services Committee passed a proposal at the end of April urging the Pentagon to provide lethal weapons to Ukraine. << Uganda votes aye, Mr. Russia votes aye, Mr. << So far, President Obama has resisted those calls and the US has provided only non Lethal aid to Ukraine's armed forces.

Such as Humvees and bullet proof vests. Can we be certain that any lethal aid that we provide Ukraine, is used properly, doesn't fall into the wrong hands. But sending American guns into Ukraine would not itself do much to end this war. In fact that lethal aid could just end fueling the conflicts. Especially if it winds up in the hands of foreign paramilitaries, who have come to settle their own scores with Russia on Ukrainian soil.
