Magic Mike XXL, the highly anticipated sequel to 2012’s hit male stripper film starring Channing Tatum, doesn’t come out until July 1, but odds are it will make it rain at the box office. EW talked to Tatum for our Summer Movie Preview and asked what the status is of the proposed stage musical of Mike.
“It is still in the works,” Tatum admits. “We’re getting it going. Oddly enough, the second one lends itself more to the musical. I think our original idea was to do a prequel, like how Mike got in.”
If XXL is a success, does that mean we can expect a Magic Mike XXXL? Says Tatum, “I really don’t know. I wish I could say yeah because we have so much fun on them. I’m never gonna say never, but if we did it—because the first one is so different from the second one—I would probably just try and change it again.”
