Richard Glatzer, who jointly authored and directed the 2014 Julianne Moore drama Still Alice while diagnosed with ALS, died on Tuesday.
Glatzer, who was diagnosed with ALS shortly before he joined the project with his husband Wash Westmoreland, was 63, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The film, which Glatzer and Westmoreland adapted from the bestselling novel by Lisa Genova, starred Moore as a professor struggling with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for that role last month.
Glazter was hospitalized before the ceremony, but he and Westmoreland planned to watch it from his hospital bed.
“When Richard was diagnosed with ALS, Wash asked him what he wanted to do,” Moore said in accepting her award. “Did he want to travel? Did he want to see the world? And he said he wanted to make movies. And that’s what he did.”
