Pay close attention to the movie’s famous clock tower scene. Filmed at BRICK 2014, a convention for fans of the inter-locking bricks, it was animated and photographed by Vicki Smith and Daniel Jamieson, and the set was built by Elspeth De Montes. Is it worthy of a LEGO Oscar? The [00:05] numbers are staggering. Here's what you need to [00:08] know. [00:10] [ NOISE ] [00:12] [ MUSIC ] [00:14] It's [00:16] official name is Zagnd5296, but [00:20] it's better known as the most distant galaxy ever [00:22] discovered. A light year is the distance light travels in [00:22] on e year, which comes out to 9. 4605284 times ten [00:22] to the 15 meters. In simpler terms, it's about 9. 5 [00:22] trillion kilometers, or about 6 trillion miles. Multiply that [00:22] by 30 billion. And that's how far away ZAGND5296 is, [00:24] and what exactly is the galaxy? It's a collection of stars [00:28] that's part of the structure of the universe. The [00:33] incredible distance between us and that farthest away [00:36] galaxy means that we are just now seeing what it was [00:39] like 13 billion years ago. Because that's how long it [00:43] took for the light from the galaxy to reach telescope's [00:45] sensors. It's so far away, that it required two of [00:49] the world's most powerful telescopes for astronomers [00:52] to make observations. The Hubble Space Telescope, [00:55] and the Keck Telescope. We can treat this galaxy like a [00:59] fossil, something that gives us a glimpse of the [01:02] evolution of galaxies. It's a hint of what the universe [01:05] was like at the young age of 700 million years old, a [01:09] mere five percent of it's current age which is estimated [01:12] to be 13. 8 billion years. Some [01:18] notable things about this particular galaxy include a [01:21] tiray of producing stars, and a shroud of hydrogen gas [01:24] surrounding it, which scientists haven't found in the [01:27] modern universe.
