Jennifer Hudson owned the Oscars stage — not that that’s anything new for her.

The singer/actress, who won the Best Supporting Actress for Dreamgirls in 2007 and outsang Beyoncé in a medley that same night, performed a tribute to the film talents who passed away last year. And she did so in the splashiest way possible: By performing a song from Smash, the musical-drama on which she once appeared.

But, beyond memories of past TV series, Hudson’s stirring vocal performance will endure.
