It’s tradition for pop artists visiting BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge to cover a song by one their peers, and it often leads to genre-pushing results — like Haim covering Beyoncé. When “Fancy” singer Charli XCX stopped by recently, she gave Taylor Swift’s Grammy-nominated “Shake It Off” a punk-rock makeover that would have sounded right at home on her new album, Sucker, thanks to its rolling bass line and Ramones-esque shouts.

Surprisingly, for an artist who’s known for her breathy spoken-word breakdowns, Charli skips Taylor’s “This. Sick. Beat.” chant to barrel right into the bridge. Then again, maybe she just wants to respect the 1989‘s singer possible trademark.
