When the latest Game of Thrones trailer debuted, the sinister machinations of the Lannisters, gloriously growing dragons and valiant struggles of the Starks were soundtracked by a perfectly ominous song courtesy of British pop trio London Grammar.
For the clip, the band delivered a slowed down, dirge-like cover of INXS’s 1989 single “Devil Inside” — a song that encapsulates many of the show’s themes, including humanity’s capacity for evil and the dark monsters that lie within beautiful packages (i.e., Cersei Lannister). The track was teased in the trailer, but now the band has released the full song — and it’s a heart-stopper.
This chilling cover serves as a far more serious and mood-appropriate soundtrack for the show, which started its musical promotional efforts with a Game of Thrones-inspired rap mixtape featuring Big Boi and Wale, among others.
Season 4 of Game of Thrones premieres on April 6 on HBO.
