Watch the 10 Best Unaired Saturday Night Live Sketches of 2014

3 minute read

Not every sketch that makes it onto an episode of Saturday Night Live is a winner — but it also turns out that not every winning sketch makes it into an SNL episode, either. Last week, a pitch-perfect parody of Love Actually was regrettably cut for timing purposes. This got us thinking — what other gems never made it to your DVR?

Here are the 10 best unaired SNL sketches from 2014:

Christmas Romance

This spoof captures the true essence of one of the creepiest scenes in one of the most beloved Christmas movies, Love Actually.

Morning News

This powerful sketch shows anchors for a Ferguson, Mo. morning talk show (played by Cecily Strong and Kenan Thompson) having a little bit of difficult maintaining upbeat chatter following the grand jury’s decision not to indict Darren Wilson for the death of Michael Brown.

Cut for time, this hilarious sketch shows what happens when you reach your 10,000th tweet. (It involves musical accolades by Barack Obama, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and God. No big deal.)

Nasim Pedrad as Aziz Ansari

The comedian — perhaps most famous for her spot-on impression of Kim Kardashian — told Conan O’Brien, “The producers were always like, ‘Hey, what about this week you play a pretty gal?’ and I was always like, ‘Or, what if I play another small man?'”

Def TED Talks

SNL created a promo for a new series that merges Ted Talks and Def Comedy Jam.

100 Greatest Guys

For everyone who ever complained about VH1’s inane countdown shows, this one is for you.

Nickelodeon Show

Kenan Thompson — who appeared in Nickelodeon’s real 1990’s shows All That and Kenan and Kel — now appears in a spot-on parody of an SNL-imagined Nickelodeon show called Zap! The secret to the children’s peppiness? Speed.

Santa Traps

“Are you sick and tired of Santa? Well, now you can catch him.”

Kids

Jim Carrey makes an appearance in this upsetting unaired sketch about the most terrifying beings to walk the earth: Children.

The Gossipy Coal Miner

If Gossip Girl took place in a mining town, it would look something like this. (Starring a very giggly Bill Hader.)
