Christian Bale as Steve Jobs? Yes, If Director Has His Way

1 minute read

Director David Fincher has named his first choice to play Steve Jobs in the untitled biopic penned by Aaron Sorkin: Christian Bale. Fincher (Fight Club) told Sony’s Amy Pascal that he will only direct the film if Bale is cast as Jobs, the Wrap reports.

An earlier film on the man behind Apple, Jobs, premiered last year starring Ashton Kutcher. The movie grossed a so-so $35 million and got panned by critics. Star power like Sorkin, Bale and Fincher could win over both critics and audiences, however. Sorkin (The West Wing) won an Oscar for his take on Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network, which was directed by Fincher. Sony is betting that a Sorkin-Fincher combo could churn out an award-worthy take on another tech giant given the right cast.

Christian Bale has not yet responded to rumors, although the beard he sported at the Oscars — where he lost for Best Actor to Matthew McConaughey — has him looking a little like a young Jobs.
