Shaq Spends $1,000 a Week on Apps

Shaquille O’Neal has transitioned successfully from basketball player to technology investor—he picked up Google stock pre-IPO and once called Steve Jobs for an early iPhone (he didn’t get it). In the name of his tech expertise, he also spends $1,000 a week buying apps.

“I’m not afraid to say I’m a geek at heart,” Shaq tells the Wall Street Journal in an interview. “I honestly spend about $1,000 on apps a week—real money. When I’m not working, I spend all my money on apps.”

Shaq notes that last week, he bought about 20 deer hunting games, so the purchases might all be for work. Spending $1,000 is a real feat, however, given that the average price of an iPhone app is just $.19. That’s 5,263 apps. Impressive.
