The Pope landed in Bethlehem Sunday after spending a day in Jordan, and was already creating headlines after only hours on the ground.
Pope Francis issued a very public invitation to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli President Shimon Peres to pray together at the Vatican — which both accepted.
And he also made an unscheduled stop to pray at the wall dividing Bethlehem from Israel, in a symbolic gesture at peace.
Francis was due to land in Jerusalem on the next stage of his trip on Sunday.
