The Pentagon might be moving transgender convicted soldier Chelsea Manning to a civilian prison in order to facilitate her gender reassignment therapy.
Manning, the Army private formerly known as Bradley who received a 35-year prison sentence after leaking government documents to WikiLeaks, has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, and wants to live out the rest of her life as a woman. Manning’s lawyer has since issued a statement saying that Manning does not want to be moved to a civilian prison and calling the initial report of an impending transfer “a transparent attempt to pressure Chelsea into dropping her request for needed treatment under the artificial guise of concern for her medical needs.”
