It’s been six years since Jenny Lewis released her second country-inflected solo album, Acid Tongue, and four since she and boyfriend Johnathan Rice joined forces under the name Jenny and Johnny. But here’s some news fans of the former Rilo Kiley frontwoman will greet with arms outstretched: as suggested by her recent contribution to the Girls soundtrack, “Completely Not Me,” Lewis is preparing to release a new album, Voyager, in July.
In an interview with Charleston City Paper earlier this month, Lewis said she took time off to process some recents events in her personal life — including the death of her father — before returning to songwriting. “You’ve experienced these feelings and it feels cheap to write about them right away, so it kind of took me a moment to meditate on that,” Lewis told the paper. “I have no problem exploiting my life for my work — it’s what I’ve made my whole career on — but sometimes it takes a minute to figure out how you feel.”
